UTSAV LAL, an international creative pianist and composer from India will be performing in Frisco City Council Chambers on Saturday April 8th at 6pm, accompanied on the Tabla by Gourisankar Karmakar. Presented by Frisco Arts and Frisco Parks & Recreation, in partnership with Steinway Hall- Plano.
Dubbed the ‘Raga Pianist’ for his innovative handling of Indian Classical music, this 24-year-old classical and jazz pianist has successfully taken the pure sounds of Indian ragas on the piano to several global venues including Carnegie Hall- New York, The Kennedy Center- Washington DC, Southbank Centre- London. Utsav’s music has been acclaimed for its sincerity, simplicity, and depth, and he is well known for his “Ragas to Reels” collaboration projects with Irish and Scottish musicians, and recent research/solo album release on the world’s first ever “Fluid Piano.” Utsav Lal is one of only eighty-two pianists worldwide to be recognized as a “Young Steinway Artist.” He will be performing on a Steinway & Sons Concert Grand piano, courtesy of Steinway Hall- Plano.
Gourisankar is a leading Tabla maestro of the present generation. His talent and creativity are manifest in classical performances, experimental East-West World Music collaborations, and North- South musical interactions. In 2008, Gourisankar established the “School of Indian Percussion & Music” in Austin, Texas and currently serves on the music faculty at the University of Texas at Austin.
